Social Justice
Much of Kimberly Kuniko's creative work explore themes of social justice as a form of creative protest. Themes have included the issuing of Executive Order 9066 where 10,000+ people of Japanese descent were forcibly displaced to incarceration camps, the colonization + genocide of indigenous peoples, justice for Palestine, immigration rights, reproductive rights for people with uteruses, LGBTQIA+ rights, mental health, climate change, and Loving v. Virginia (1967) where a Supreme Court decision struck down laws against interracial marriage in the U.S. a mere 11 years before her parents married.
Her art centering on social justice themes has been published in Artists Responding To Magazine and Room Magazine.
