description

A cozy, virtual retreat for carving out a little time for some creative play while in good company of fellow creatives who are doing the same. May 11 is World Collage Day--an annual, international celebration of collage founded by Kolaj Magazine in 2018, and all about artists connecting across the globe through an art medium centered on bringing disparate things together to create new wholes.

WORLD COLLAGE DAY // Special 2-hour workshop for delving into the tactile art form of collage + mixed media art. We’ll amble through a series of visual + written prompts to explore ways of communicating feelings, thoughts, and stories through paper materials, texture, shape, and use of positive and negative space. During this workshop, explore the following:

  • consider color palette as we pull from disparate materials
  • pick out visual interest of original source material, create focal points, + maintain a sense of balance
  • work with abstract shapes as well as literal imagery
  • play with layering, mirroring, puzzling while considering positive and negative space

This workshop will take place in a live session through Zoom, which allows us to interact face-to-face in an online classroom setting through video, audio, and chat box. Download the Zoom app software to your preferred camera- and mic-enabled device + have stable internet service to participate in the live virtual workshop. Students will receive an email from me in the days leading up to the event with a direct link and instructions on how to access the workshop.
