The use of language has evolved dramatically with the advancement of technology and the way in which it influences our lives. Texting and emails have replaced older methods of communication. New words and phrases have been added to our lexicon. This special exhibition will feature 17 artists whose work centers on words including two collaborations by the makers of Sage Words:

ABOUT: The Guild is an organization with a focus on connecting creatives by providing a space for artists to gather together for inspiration, collaboration and conversation. The Guild was founded on the inspiration of Impressionist artists in 19th-century Paris and the 1930's Oxford literary group, The Inklings, which resulted in an explosion of one of the most influential art movements in history. The Guild is organized by Erin Wilbanks and Paul Gernetzke.

Via Crucis Art Exhibition

Friday, April 18

7 p.m.-midnight

The Tribe LA
651 Clover St., Los Angeles, CA 90031

An ink and water color painting created especially for this exhibition along with a collaboration piece created with my sister, Brittany Taylor, will be included in the 2014 Via Crucis art exhibition in Los Angeles on Good Friday. Both pieces center on the theme of "injustice."

Origins
In the Middle Ages, followers of Christ traveled to the Holy Land to visit the actual sites associated with his “passion” (the events surrounding the death of Christ). They walked the Via Crucis or “Way of the Cross.” This journey was costly and many could not make the trek. Upon returning home, sojourners would construct replicas of the places they had visited in order for others to experience it as well. Tableaus were created--sculptures, paintings, artifacts and images depicted the places they had seen.

In the mid-fifteenth century, the word “station” was first used for these types of interactive depictions of Christ’s journey to the cross. “Station” comes from the Latin statio, “to stare” or “to stand.” In this historical context, it meant "to stop and look."

About the Exhibit
Artists from various faith backgrounds have created pieces or collaborations for each of the fourteen stations. The exhibit includes a variety of works that embrace varying perspectives, doubts and questions. The exhibit is intended to create a multifaceted space for contemplation and dialogue regarding the intersection of art and faith. The hope is for it to serve as a meditative space where people can come and engage with the artwork that has been presented through action, dialogue and contemplation. All are welcome.
