ABOUT RISOGRAPH PRINTING
Origin of the Risograph // In 1946, Noboru Hayama started a mimeograph printing shop called Riso-sha in Tokyo, Japan, with the aim of providing a low-cost, high-volume, and environmentally friendly print option. His shop eventually became the Riso Kagaku Corporation with the original risograph printer being introduced in 1986. Little did Hayama know that how his practical invention would spur on a new print medium for artists who inhabit a curiosity for vintage technology, working with vibrant colors, and creating layered, textured printworks.
One-of-a-kind Results // A risograph is a stencil duplicator that fuses the look and process of screenprinting with the convenience of an office copier. Colors are printed one at a time, and therefore each print is delightfully unique with variation of register, color layers, and textures full of unexpected, unique quirks.
Environmentally Friendly // RISO ink is soy and rice oil based with low VOC, and risograph machines use very little energy to run with consumables (like ink bottles) that are recyclable.
