When our hearts ache for our world with no end in sight to the pain we see all around us, it is natural to become disheartened. But, there is hope yet. While hate splinters off, fragmenting even itself, connection and togetherness grows stronger, louder. Just as roots that lie beneath the earth, our power lies in our collectivity—in pressing on, taking turns, and holding fast to what is loving. With each new root, our impact expands until it reaches every corner, carrying lifeblood to nurture compassion, kindness, and justice.

“I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the world.”

- Sadako Sasaki

The orizuru (crane) is a symbol and movement for peace deepened by the story of Sadako Sasaki, a Hiroshima survivor who died at age 12 from leukemia (‘A-bomb disease’). While in the hospital, her friend Chizuka shared with her how orizuru are sacred birds that live 100 years, ad if you fold 1,000 origami tsuru, you’ll get well. Together, they folded for herself and others until Sadako’s death.

“I believe that what our hands are doing can teach our hearts.”

- Masahiro Sasaki (Sadako’s brother + peace activist)

The orizuru means “never again,” and “never again” means NOW as we hold hope in togetherness, raising our voices and holding hands around the world to demand justice and live out compassion. Peace on Wings is dedicated to the people of Palestine. From the River to the Sea. 🍉

ABOUT RISOGRAPH PRINTING

Origin of the Risograph // In 1946, Noboru Hayama started a mimeograph printing shop called Riso-sha in Tokyo, Japan, with the aim of providing a low-cost, high-volume, and environmentally friendly print option. His shop eventually became the Riso Kagaku Corporation with the original risograph printer being introduced in 1986. Little did Hayama know that how his practical invention would spur on a new print medium for artists who inhabit a curiosity for vintage technology, working with vibrant colors, and creating layered, textured printworks.

One-of-a-kind Results // A risograph is a stencil duplicator that fuses the look and process of screenprinting with the convenience of an office copier. Colors are printed one at a time, and therefore each print is delightfully unique with variation of register, color layers, and textures full of unexpected, unique quirks.

Environmentally Friendly // RISO ink is soy and rice oil based with low VOC, and risograph machines use very little energy to run with consumables (like ink bottles) that are recyclable.
