to see rightly
The Little Prince, written and illustrated by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, will forever be one of my favorite pieces of literature and collections of illustrations.
When I was in grade school, my older sister Stephanie read this meaningful story to my younger sister and me. Together, we snuggled beneath covers and poured over the watercolor wonders, listening to the poetry and deeper meanings that filled each page.
I have found that one can never read this tale too many times, and that it's importance will never fade for me.
Some months back, I quickly lettered these insightful words as part of an art prompt exercise. When I posted it to my Instagram feed, a dear friend commented that the lines I had chosen were some of her very favorites. I made a secret pact with myself that I would go back to do Saint-Exupéry's words justice, and mail it to her in celebration of her birthday. This is my finished piece along with my dearest edition of this beloved tale.
